Based on the data set Global Burden of Disease (GBD) cardiovascular burden estimates 1990 and 2021, related on December 12, 2022, the estimated mean burden attributable to hypertensive heart disease for each GBD region in 2021 is calculated and shown in the graph above. The estimated burden for each region is measured by age-standardized disability-adjusted life years.
The estimated mean was the highest in Central Sub-Saharan Africa followed by Southern Sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, Western Sub-Saharan Africa and North Africa, and the Middle East. On the other hand, Australasia and High-income Asia Pacific showed a very low burden attributable to hypertensive heart disease.
These data show that Sub-Saharan Africa needs aid for hypertensive heart disease more than any other region.
